Warm, gooey, chocolate deliciousness in a classic chocolate bread pudding recipe.
I wasn’t planning on sharing this recipe so you’ll find I don’t have a lot of photos for it! I kind of just winged it when the husband wanted to buy $7 bread pudding from Ruggles Green. If I spend that much on a dessert it better be hard to make, at least. Bread pudding is piece of cake. (Did you see what I did there?) So so incredibly easy and it uses ingredients I just have lying around at home.
So I wasn’t going to upload this recipe but when I posted a first-bite action video to instagram I got this from @jwillis777:
So here it goes. And thank you, dude.
You’ll need to use old, firm bread for this. I cut little cubes from an old loaf of bread that had been sitting out overnight.
I wanted to get a shot of the pudding as if I was holding it.
I dressed Barna up and shot a close up but I like to think photo detectives will know my arm isn’t as hairy as that (I entertain the fantasy it isn’t at least). So I’m just coming clean here and adding a bonus behind the shot. Isn’t he the most adorable assistant?
- 4-5 old bread slices, cut into 1 in cubes
- 3 eggs
- 1½ cup whole milk, warm
- ¾ cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ⅔ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon raw cacao powder (optional)
- 1 pinch sea salt
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Place bread cubes on a baking dish and pour butter over them. Sprinkle chocolate chips.
- In a bowl mix eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cacao and salt.
- Pour mixture over the bread cubes, slightly pressing down on them so they all get soaked up.
- Bake in the oven, uncovered, for 40-45 minutes.
You can add chopped nuts, dried fruit, get creative!
Delicious warm and cold.
Enjoy! Visit me on Instagram for the glorious first bite video shot!
Amazing and wonderful pudding, looks great too! I’m going to try this tonight :)
The hairy arm…. :)
hahaha papi, por lo menos tú sí reconocerías el brazo güerillo de Barna
Love bread pudding. It’s an excellent way to use stale bread. Can’t wait to try this chocolate version :)
I know right! Never throwing out old bread ever again.
I’m with you! Most desserts can be made at home for less than you spend on one serving in a restaurant. This looks delicious!
Right? And with better ingredients too! Pasture-raised eggs & milk and STILL cheaper (and honestly tastier)! Thanks for stopping by Renee!
This bread pudding looks amazing! I can’t wait to try it :)
I’m sure it won’t disappoint!:)
I LOVE bread pudding and this recipe looks amazing!! Thank you so much for sharing! :)
Thanks Sarah! Hope you enjoy <3
Your post is hilarious! He should thank heavens you weren’t blogging about Spanx! (the pudding looks good too!:).
Hahaha he’s just lucky I gloved his hands instead of painting his nails or something!;) :P
That is hilarious that you dressed your husband in an apron for this – what a good sport he is :) I LOVE bread pudding – I’ll be pinning this to try!
He’s a GREAT assistant! haha. I backed out a few steps and shot a couple. He was like “I don’t appear in your shot right?” I’m like “nooo…”
jwillis777’s comment is perfection!
I hadn’t uploaded a recipe in so long! It was exactly the motivation I needed. It had an element of civic duty involved – like I just HAD to get it done that same night!
