Classic Chocolate Bread Pudding

Warm, gooey, chocolate deliciousness in a classic chocolate bread pudding recipe.

incredibly easy and delicious!

incredibly easy and delicious!

chocolate bread pudding

I wasn’t planning on sharing this recipe so you’ll find I don’t have a lot of photos for it! I kind of just winged it when the husband wanted to buy $7 bread pudding from Ruggles Green. If I spend that much on a dessert it better be hard to make, at least. Bread pudding is piece of cake. (Did you see what I did there?) So so incredibly easy and it uses ingredients I just have lying around at home.

So I wasn’t going to upload this recipe but when I posted a first-bite action video to instagram I got this from @jwillis777:

So here it goes. And thank you, dude.

old stale bread cut into squares

You’ll need to use old, firm bread for this. I cut little cubes from an old loaf of bread that had been sitting out overnight.

barna and chocolate bread pudding

I wanted to get a shot of the pudding as if I was holding it.

I dressed Barna up and shot a close up but I like to think photo detectives will know my arm isn’t as hairy as that (I entertain the fantasy it isn’t at least). So I’m just coming clean here and adding a bonus behind the shot. Isn’t he the most adorable assistant?

  2. Place bread cubes on a baking dish and pour butter over them. Sprinkle chocolate chips.
  3. In a bowl mix eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cacao and salt.
  4. Pour mixture over the bread cubes, slightly pressing down on them so they all get soaked up.
  5. Bake in the oven, uncovered, for 40-45 minutes.
Notes
Omit the chocolate chips and cacao powder for delicious vanilla bread pudding.
You can add chopped nuts, dried fruit, get creative!
Delicious warm and cold.

    • I hadn’t uploaded a recipe in so long! It was exactly the motivation I needed. It had an element of civic duty involved – like I just HAD to get it done that same night!
